Mesquite's Quality of Life Creates a Vibrant Environment for Residents and Visitors

MESQUITE, TX (January 01, 2009)—The City of Mesquite, once known primarily for its romping, world-famous Mesquite Championship Rodeo, is proud to tout another great amenity: a superb quality of life. An award-winning education system, booming business community and an aggressive plan for economic and infrastructure improvements are just some of the attributes found within Mesquite’s city limits and all just 15-minutes from downtown Dallas.

Creating an enhanced quality of life is a priority to City leaders says the Honorable Mesquite Mayor, John Monaco. “Our aim as a city is high. We want to provide our citizens and their families with a quality of life they can be proud of. Our school system, arts, entertainment and recreation options are some of the best our region has to offer, and we look forward to continued growth and success.”

Families relocate to Mesquite largely because of its award-winning school system. Year over year, the Mesquite Independent School District has continued to improve TAKS results. This is due in part to its well-educated faculty and staff, of whom more than 55 percent hold a Masters Degree or higher, a figure that is greater than most other school districts in the area. And, the Mesquite ISD boasts “Exemplary” ratings for five campuses and “Recognized” ratings for 20 – more than half of its total campuses.

Mesquite offers residents and visitors myriad entertainment options the City fondly claims range from “Barbeque to Bach.” The Bach portion stems from the Mesquite Arts Center (MAC). Founded in 1981, the Mesquite Arts Center (MAC) is one of the few arts facilities located in a suburb outside of Dallas. At 38,000 square feet, the MAC features a 500-seat concert hall, a Black Box Theatre and two galleries that provide residents with year-round cultural programming, including diverse and wide-ranging art exhibits, concerts, literary events and live theater.

The City’s renown for its thriving art community is rivaled only by its profile as a regional shopping and dining destination. Options abound for shopping, dining (including award-winning) barbeque), and entertainment all within a 1.5 mile radius the City has coined “The Rows of Texas.” At the Restaurant, Retail and Rodeo Rows, one of the largest entertainment areas anywhere in the Metroplex, patrons can enjoy an incredible assortment of shopping, dining and entertainment offerings including the legendary Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, Mesquite offers a wide array of parks, trails, athletic facilities and playgrounds for the enjoyment of both its residents and visitors. More than 100 facilities for all types of sports and leisure activities provide ample opportunities for recreational pursuits. The recently adopted Trails Master Plan proposes 195 miles of new trails, in addition to the current 12 miles of hiking and biking trails that will connect to key points of interest.

Though one of Texas’ largest cities, Mesquite works hard to retain its hometown qualities. Mesquite’s ranking among its emergency services organizations puts the city in a select group of communities across the nation. Its fire department has achieved an ISO 1 rating (the best rating possible) according to the Insurance Service Office (ISO).

A commitment to public well-being is just one of the reasons Mesquite is such a great place to live, work and play according to long-time resident, Linda Rose. “Mesquite is dynamic. It’s vibrant. And that’s just the beginning. I’ve been part of the Mesquite community for more than 20 years and I’m continually amazed by the quality of life and the City’s commitment to its citizens.”
