Welcome to the City of Mesquite’s Project Renewal Web site. A great many people in our community may have heard the term “Project Renewal,” but still may not be familiar with what it is, and all that it encompasses.
Project Renewal is the name given to the City’s long-range plan to transform, rebuild and re-invent itself for the future. It involves multiple entities and numerous City departments, encompassing everything from the Department of Public Works to Development Services, as well as our Economic Development Office and our Communications and Marketing and Tourism Divisions, to name a few.
It’s important to keep in mind that Project Renewal is a long-term plan for success, and even though several elements of this plan may not be implemented for some time, numerous
components will begin and be completed over the next two to three years. As it evolves, Project Renewal will provide noticeable changes for the better - changes that will improve both the quality of life for our residents, and our city’s image and positioning in the marketplace for years to come.
Project Renewal will include changes to our planning and zoning ordinances, stricter code enforcement, and investment in our future by replacing our aging infrastructure. Additionally, we will improve our aging housing inventory through neighborhood revitalization programs, and will work with developers and homebuilders to bring new, higher-end housing developments to the city, in order to expand our residents’ housing options and increase our tax base. With careful planning and incentives, my colleagues and I on the City Council are working with our City’s staff to lure significant development projects at Mesquite’s major gateways that will create a dramatic sense of arrival, and provide us with a significant boost, both from a branding and economic perspective.
Through this Web site and other communication vehicles, we will keep you informed of our progress as we embark on this important journey to renew Mesquite, as well as other important initiatives and news items that highlight many of the positive things that occur regularly within our city.
